The US women's national soccer team was unable to contain Thailand's strong attack. However, the 13-0 loss to Thailand was indicative of a bigger problem: Women's football isn’t supported as well as men's. While the US team has a well-funded program, Thailand doesn't. The federations would rather divert resources toward their male counterparts than support women's football.

Morgan scores five goals
The USA women’s soccer team opened their title defense against Thailand with a bang. Morgan scored five goals in halftime, matching the record set four years ago by Michelle Akers against Canada. The score so thrilled the pro-American crowd they started a chorus of "Go USA!" throughout the game.
The USWNT's victory over Thailand was defended by Carli Lloyd. Carli Lloyd, however, stood by the United States team and defended them against some mocking remarks. Pay disparity between men and women in US soccer
On Sunday, the U.S. Women's Soccer Team shocked the world with an amazing 2-0 win over the Netherlands. The women have won four World Cups, while the men have yet to do so. Women have never been paid the same amount as men, despite winning four titles. This is one of many reasons the U.S. Soccer Federation denies women equal pay.
Although the US's recent performance in soccer has highlighted the disparity in pay between men and female players, this has long been a topic of controversy. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand recently highlighted the team's 13-0 victory over Thailand. The US women have scored over the Thai team's goals in one World Cup game. It is a record by any nation.
