Varas' USMNTU20 squad is a mixture of top MLS talent with European imports. Only one of the players has ever played in an U20 team, while others have been regular starters for MLS clubs. However, the squad is lacking a central forward.
Revelations Cup
On Wednesday, the U.S. Men's National Team's (USMNT), will launch its Revelations Cup Tournament Mexico. The tournament features four U-20 world-class national teams and is held over a period of 10 days. The tournament aims to bring fans close to some of the brightest emerging players and help rewrite sports history.
Varas and the rest of his squad have had a terrible opening match in the Revelations Cup versus Brazil. Varas, who was only hired in December, had just a few training sessions with the squad before the competition. The squad didn't score any goals. Varas however stated that his team is ready for tough challenges and are determined to do better.
FIFA U-20 World Cup
The FIFA U-20 World Cup is a biennial football tournament for male players under the age of 20. FIFA organizes the tournament. The first edition was held in Tunisia back in 1977. The tournament was previously called the FIFA World Youth Championship. It has become a worldwide phenomenon. Teams compete for a spot in the tournament by qualifying from their respective youth championships, which are divided into six groups. The two highest-scoring teams from each group will advance to the next stage. The remaining four teams are eliminated.
Argentina is the tournament's most successful team with six wins. Their last title was in 2007 when they won the tournament at Canada. Brazil, England and Ukraine are also notable.
Olympic qualifying tournament under-23 players
Every four years, the Olympic qualifying tournament for players under 23 has been held. The tournament is for players less than 23 years old, and it is separate from FIFA World Cup. Each nation is allowed three wild cards over the age limit. The United States was eliminated from the tournament three times in the last four years. They lost to El Salvador (Canada), and Mexico. The United States did not forfeit any of its under23 players, as they were already playing with the senior team.
The U-23 team will be facing a CONCACAF team on March 18th. Costa Rica will face the U-23 team in their first group match on March 18. The next game in the group stage will be a knockout game between the top two teams. Two winners from this round will go on to the finals, and they will face off in the knockout round.
Team USA vs Honduras u20
As they attempt to qualify for Pre-World Cup qualification, the Hondurans intend to capitalize on their home advantage. They had a great performance in the group stage, and they hope to repeat that success in CONCACAF U-20 qualifying rounds. The match is set to take place at the General Francisco Morazan Stadium, also known as La Bombonerita.
Honduras won 2-1 against Panama in its last match. Marco Tulio Aceituno scored a brace in Honduras' 2-1 win over Panama. That match was won by the United States from beginning to end. The Hondurans want to continue their winning ways by eliminating their opponents.
