The United States women’s hockey team is one in the most successful international teams. They have won four Women's World Cup titles and four Olympic gold medals. Morgan, Lloyd and Alyssa Thompson are just a few of the most prominent players on the roster.
Morgan
Alex Morgan is out of the two friendlies against England & Spain because of injury. Vlatko andonovski, the coach of the USWNT, has released the 24-player roster. The matches are scheduled for Oct. 7th in London, and Oct. 14th in Pamplona in Spain. Both teams have qualified for the 2023 World Cup Australia.
Carli Lloyd
Carli Lloyd is one the most prolific goal-scorers in US women’s soccer history. She is a USWNT veteran with three14 caps. If she plays in both South Korean friendlies, she could earn even more. Her career is not without controversy, having been marred by her split with longtime trainer James Galanis and a major injury. She is also the highest-paid female player in the game.
Alyssa Thompson
Alyssa Thompson is one of the most promising young American players. She has the technical control and speed to defeat defenders in one on one duels. Tracey Kelly, the US women’s national team's coach, was able to recognize her talent. Kevins recalls Thompson at 13 years old, when she was scouting Southern California clubs. In that game, she came across a forward who was "brave" and "resilient" on the field. Thompson is now a member the US women's team.
Tobin Heath
Tobin Heath is an American forward who was recently added to the US women’s soccer squad roster. She is a top player who has played for the North Carolina Tar Heels, as well the United States National team. Heath has been called "perhaps the USA's most talented player" by the United States Soccer Federation. She was named Athlete of the Year in 2016 by US Soccer.
Hope Solo
Hope Solo is a controversial figure in women's soccer, with a complex legacy. Solo is one of the most accomplished goalkeepers, having made 202 appearances on the U.S. soccer team, and holding a record for keeping 152 clean sheets. Solo is also known for her outspoken opinions and controversial character, which has made her one of the most talked about figures in the sport.
Tobin Naeher
The United States women’s football team is currently in the final stages to qualify for the World Cup. Tobin Naeher was a surprise selection, but she has since proven to be a valuable member of the roster. She played every minute and made four saves during the 2-1 victory over France. Naeher also made an important penalty kick save in the semifinals, stopping Steph Houghton's attempt.
Tiffany McLeod
Canadian soccer players have accused referee Christiana Petersen of bias in an ongoing controversy regarding the US women's team's match against Canada. Pedersen gave a penalty to the United States for holding the ball within the penalty area in the 80th minute. Pedersen is also a former World Cup referee. He was not available immediately for comment.
Megan Rapinoe
Megan Rapinoe, a steady presence for the United States' women's national soccer team for more than 10 years. She is an outstanding forward on and off the pitch. She was raised in Redding (California) and played volleyball alongside her older brother. Rapinoe has been a major player for the United States in recent years. She scored two goals at the 2012 World Cup as well as another in the 2015 World Cup.
