Varas' USMNT 20 squad includes a mixture of top MLS talent as well as European imports. All except one of these players have played in U20 teams before. Many others are regular starters at MLS clubs. The team is still missing a center forward.
Revelations Cup
On Wednesday, the U.S. Men's National Team's (USMNT), will launch its Revelations Cup Tournament Mexico. The tournament will take place over 10 days and includes four U-20 national team teams of international standard. The tournament seeks to bring people closer to some the best players and help rewrite sport history.
Varas and his squad are coming off a poor showing in their opening game of the Revelations Cup against Brazil. Varas only joined the squad in December. The squad also had a few practice sessions before the competition. The squad did not register one goal. However, Varas said his players are ready for a tough challenge and are working hard to get better.
FIFA U-20 World Cup
The FIFA U-20 World Cup for male football players is an annual tournament. FIFA organizes this tournament. It was first held by Tunisia in 1977. The tournament was previously called the FIFA World Youth Championship. It has become a worldwide phenomenon. Each team competes for a place in the tournament by qualifying at their youth championships. These are split into six groups. The next stage will be decided by the two top teams in each group. The remaining 4 teams are eliminated.
Argentina is the tournament's most successful team with six wins. Their last title came in 2007, when they won the tournament in Canada. Others notable countries include Russia, England, Ukraine and Ukraine.
Olympic qualifying tournament for players under 23
The Olympic qualifying tournament for under-23 players has been held every four years. The tournament is for players under 23 years old and is separate from the FIFA World Cup. Each nation has three wild card exceptions to the age limit. The United States has lost three consecutive years to El Salvador and Canada in the tournament. The United States didn't have to forfeit any players under 23 because they were already playing on the senior national team.
In addition to Brazil, Mexico, and Canada, the U-23 team will face a team from CONCACAF in the group stage on March 18. Costa Rica will host the first group game on March 18. The next game in the group stage will be a knockout game between the top two teams. Two winners from this round will go on to the finals, and they will face off in the knockout round.
Team USA vs Honduras u20
The Hondurans hope to make the most of their home advantage and qualify for Pre-World Cup. The national team put in a solid performance on the group stage. They will be trying to maintain that success during the CONCACAF U-20 qualifiers rounds. The match will take places at the General Francisco Morazan Stadium (also known as La Bombonerita).
Honduras won 2-1 against Panama in its last match. Marco Tulio Aceituno scored a brace in Honduras' 2-1 win over Panama. The United States, however, dominated that match from start to finish. The Hondurans want to continue their winning ways by eliminating their opponents.
