Dana White's Contender Series was created to support the young fighters of the regional scene. The main event of this season will be the Lightweight title bout, with the Middleweights as well as the Welterweights being co-main events. The Ultimate Job Interview was cancelled because of injuries to main event participants. This tournament is a great way to find out if your are the next big thing within the UFC.
Sixth season of Dana White's Contender Series
The sixth season Dana White’s Contender Series' premiere date has been set for Tuesday, 27 July at 8 pm ET. The program will air live on ESPN+, and is expected to air one episode per week. The UFC's newest fighters are scouted and offered contracts. Ten episodes will make up the sixth season.
Lightweights are the main event
The lightweight division is in a resurgence with two promising prospects battling for title shot. The main event will feature former UFC fighters Ty Flores vs Rafael Alves. Both are on an impressive four-fight winning streak. Rafael Alves is a former Titan FC interim lightweight champion who trains at the MMA Masters in South Florida. Miguel Baeza, his fellow fighter, has seen him rise to stardom.
Co-main event: Middleweights
The UFC 276 contest series co-main will feature two top fighters from the division. The co-main event will feature No. Jack Hermansson (6th) will be taking on No. Sean Strickland, 7th in the rankings. Both fighters hope to face reigning division champion Israel Adesanya. Hermansson has won nine fights in a row since 2016, with six of his last eight victories. Strickland is on a five-fight winning streak and is hoping to continue that streak.
The co-main show is the Welterweights
The co-main fight of the contender series features two former heavyweight champions who are both undefeated. Bruno Assis from Brazil will face Diaz, who defeated a highly-rated opponent back in March. There will also be two exciting bantamweight matches. Mayra Buleno Silva is set to fight Wu Yanan. Carlos Aldo, a highly-rated middleweight prospect, will be up against Aldo.
The co-main event will be the lightweights
For the second time in two years, the lightweight division is back. A top prospect in UFC faces a lightweight. Brendan Battles (28-0 KOs, 2 knockouts) will face Fred Grey of Atlanta in the comain event. The winner will earn a spot in the lightweight division's championship fight next year.
