Sports media can be a difficult world for women. They are often ridiculed for their looks. Some have broken this glass ceiling, however. Linda Cohn from ESPN is one of the trailblazers. Cohn has been a versatile personality since being hired in 1992.

Danica Patrick

Danica Patrick, a NASCAR race driver, is an award-winning driver. She has won multiple championships and was named the sport's most popular driver several times. Danica is an avid fitness fan and philanthropist, in addition to her racing career. Danica is loved for her attractive personality and fit physique.

Patrick started her career racing karts. In 2005, she became the youngest winner of the Indianapolis 500. She is also currently the only female driver to win IndyCar Series. She continues to break the female sports record.

Lindsey Vonn

Lindsey Vonn was a well-known skier as well as a world-class competitor. She is one the most decorated female athletes in the history. She has won numerous world titles, including three consecutive downhill world championships as well as the overall world cup title. She is a role model for women who are interested in sports.

Lindsey Vonn was raised in Minnesota, and started skiing at an early age. She began competing in races at age seven and soon made it to international competitions. She competed in World Junior Championships and World Cup events, and became a World Cup champion in 2004. Vonn won the overall World Cup title again in 2010 and 2008.

Michelle Kwan

Michelle Kwan's interest in figure skating began at a young age. She was five years old when she began to skate with her older sister. Her parents, Danny and Estella Kwan, were immigrants from Hong Kong and China. The Kwans first met at a school reunion. Her father worked at the telephone company, while her mother managed the Golden Pheasant Restaurant in Torrance. Michelle began serious training when she was eight years old. She would work for three to four hours a day. She was so dedicated to her practice that her family couldn't afford it.


Kwan appointed Rafael Arutyunyan, a well-known technician, to be her coach in fall 2003. The pair skated to "The Feeling Begins" for the short program and "Tosca" for the long program. At the U.S. Championships, Kwan tied Maribel Vinson-Owen's record for U.S. women's figure skating with nine titles. Kwan was then eligible for the Olympic Games in Turin (Italy) where she competed with a new judging system. However, at the World Championships, Kwan fell on a triple salchow and two-footed a triple lutz.

Cari Champion

Cari Champion, a prominent broadcast journalist, is a well-known name in the sports world. She hosts the podcast Be Honest with Cari Champion and anchors the noon edition ESPN's flagship program. She has worked in broadcast journalism for several networks and has a wide-ranging knowledge of sports. She will speak on the 2019 program track titled Pushing the Limits Human Performance.

Cari Champion was born and raised in Pasadena. She attended UCLA. She is the sister of one older brother and two younger brothers. She has never been married, and she is not in a relationship with anyone.

Li Na

Li Na is a very well-known Chinese tennis player. She rose from humble origins as the daughter of an athlete whose dreams were derailed by political strife. Now, she is both one of world's top tennis players and one among the wealthiest women. Until her rise to fame, most of her Chinese compatriots had never seen her play.

She has been praised both for her self-confidence & her ability in inspiring young Chinese. But her contributions go beyond the realm of sports. Li Na is also a prominent cultural entrepreneur, and her influence extends beyond sports.
